Large quantities of high quality fresh water is required for the production of beverages - just as much for alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages as for mineral water.
Spring or well water generally has to be treated before being processed. However, the washing and cleaning processes involved in production also require water. In the process, the following are used, for example: 

• Water softening systems
• Iron removal systems / manganese removal systems
• Demineralisation systems (ion exchangers or reverse osmosis)
• Chemical, catalytic and UV disinfection systems

Waste water from the drinks industry is not always easy to process in a waste water treatment plant - even though this concerns natural products! On the one hand, this is due to the fluctuating inflow; on the other hand, this is due to ingredients such as disinfectants or products that are difficult to break down. Disinfectants have to be deactivated and substances that are difficult to break down need to be separately treated before being discharged.
