Chemical disinfection is used everywhere where there is water with particularly resistant germs, high levels of pollution, or low light penetration depths that have to be reliably treated.
Periodic pulse disinfection will usually be the most logical way of preventing microbial recontamination. Continually administering disinfectants runs the risk of resistance building up, which is why it is advisable to regularly change the disinfectant used.

The deciding factor for a long-lasting effect is not least the design of the components and the way the pipelines are installed. Dead zones and unprotected orifices are to be avoided and, if necessary, CIP (Cleaning-In-Place) has to be possible.
